Apple Removes Apps from China Store That Help Internet Users Evade Censorship

The crackdown of the Chinese government on internet and Apple continues. If you are living in China and wondering why your VPN apps are not working then here’s the good reason for that. The government of China has taken the help from Apple, Inc. to remove all the apps from the App Store that can be used to evade its Firewall against the censorship.

VPN is the software made by the developers that can mask the IP address of the computer and internet, thereby allowing the users to view anything they want, even the sites that are banned in that region. Such apps an d software have vanished from China’s internet and App Store on the request of Chinese Government.

The VPN company, the Express VPN posted the letter that they received from the Apple, Inc. saying their app has been removed from the App Store. According to the letter, “because it includes content that is illegal in China, we have taken it down.” Not only this, another post from this company on Twitter confirmed the news and agreed that the app has been removed. In addition to that, the Express VPN posted that the removal of the app is, “surprising and unfortunate.” Further, it added, “We’re disappointed in this development, as it represents the most drastic measure the Chinese government has taken to block the use of VPNs to date, and we are troubled to see Apple aiding China’s censorship efforts.”

Well, this is not the first time that Apple has removed apps from App Store on the request of Chinese Government. This removal of the apps from the App Store is a new signal indicating the China is taking full-fledged interest to control the internet. And in response, Apple has made every step to ensure Chinese Government that they stay on Beijing’s good side.
