Qualcomm has a yearly habit of announcing the next generation mobile SoC at its Snapdragon Technology Summit. If history repeats itself, then Qualcomm will be releasing it"s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor at the same summit this December.
What will the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 pack inside it?
Chances are that Qualcomm will make use of the new tech from ARM. For those who do not remember, ARM released Cortex-A75 and A55 CPUs and the DynamIQ multi-core cluster technology. While Qualcomm can come up with their own, it is pointless wasting resources to develop an already existing technology.
Qualcomm can make use of ARM’s Built on ARM Cortex Technology license to make tweaks and changes to ARM’s Cortex-A75 or A55 cores. However, do not expect these details to be publicized.
Chances are that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 will release with a four plus four octa core framework. this will help increase the performance and power efficiency. When it comes to the FinFET chip, it is mostly like to be a 10nm chip.
It is also highly likely that a greater emphasis will be placed on machine learning. This is due to the increasing implementation of AI in smartphones nowadays. The company recently bought a machine learning start up company called Scyfer. This suggests the company is planning to put more effort into machine learning.
There will also be a new Adreno GPU. It will supposedly be called the Adreno 630. There is also a chance that Qualcomm’s gigabit LTE X20 and 5G ready X50 modems could make an appearance in the processor. If the company does it, it is guaranteed to make the chipsets future proof. Quick Charge 5, a standard for fast charging has a possibility of featuring in the SoC. Another welcome move would be to have better compatibility with the increasingly common USB Power Delivery standard.
