Harry Potter AR Game in the works

Niantic Labs recently announced that they are announced that they are making an augmented reality game based on the Harry Potter franchise. The company is more famous for the famed Pokémon Go game and plans to apply the same idea to the magical world of Hogwarts.

What do we know so far about the Harry Potter AR Game?

Niantic Labs did not specify an exact release date for the Harry Potter AR Game. They said they will be giving out more information on the game in the coming year.

The gameplay will be quite similar to Pokémon Go. The Harry Potter AR Game will be called Harry Potter Wizards Unite and will show digital images on top of real-life objects when you view them on a smartphone or tablet.

Niantic Labs will collaborate with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games San Francisco"s development team to work on this game. The company did not give out much information to the press but they did tease the idea behind the game. They had the following statement to say.

"Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighbourhoods and cities to discover and fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies,"

There were widespread rumours about a Harry Potter AR Game but was labelled a hoax by fact-checking site Snopes. According to Snopes, memes and petitions were misinterpreted into a story that a game was about to release. The website has changed their statement after the news from Niantic Labs.

The company will be hoping they can see a success story similar to Pokémon Go. Pokémon Go was launched in the mid of 2016 and went on to be a hit. Apple said it broke its App Store download record, but it didn"t disclose the exact numbers.
