Xiaomi Mi A1: Quick review

Google and Xiaomi join hands to deliver another Android One device in the form of the Xiaomi Mi A1.

The Android One program was first initiated in 2014. However, lacklustre efforts from Google and domestic OEMs meant that it did not make much of an effort. Google though, is not ready to give up on this yet and has added the Moto X4 and HTC U11 Life to its array of Android One products. Now the Xiaomi Mi A1 follow suit.

Design of the Xiaomi Mi A1

The design of the Xiaomi Mi A1 feels somewhat like the OnePlus 5. It is elegantly built and has a premium design that features a metal construction. The thickness of the phone is 7.3mm while it weighs a mere 165g. The fingerprint scanner is on the back while the dual camera prods out a bit but it is not an eyesore.

It has a 5.5 inch IPS Full HD display in the front. It displays vivid colours and excellent contrast thanks to the 403 PPI pixel density.

Specs of the Xiaomi Mi A1

Xiaomi uses its trusted Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM which helps keep everything snappy. Since stock Android is lighter, it further helps ensure a smoother experience. The device comes with 64 GB of on board memory but if it is not enough, you can add more via the Micro SD card slot. There are two Nano sim slots, which double as the micro SD slot. The Xiaomi Mi A1 has a rare feature; it comes with an infrared emitter that allows the device to interact with many home appliances and it comes with one bottom firing speaker.

Although a mid range device, Xiaomi brought the dual camera set up to this device. The camera setup includes a 12 MP wide-angle 26mm f/2.2 lens and another 12 MP 50mm f/2.6 telephoto lens, with a dual-tone LED flash.

It also comes with phase detection auto focus. Camera quality is pretty good in excellent lighting conditions but is sub par in low light. The 5 MP front camera takes quite good selfies and with face detection, it locks on to your face in a snap.
