Tesla springs a surprise with the Tesla Roadster

At the official launch of the Tesla electric semi on the seventeenth of November, Tesla unveiled a surprise package in the form of the Tesla Roadster. It caught the general world unawares and reeling from this. The CEO of Tesla described it as a “smackdown” to the fossil fuel-addicted auto industry.

What is exciting about the Tesla Roadster?

The major headline out of this roadster is that it is the quickest production car to go from 0 to 60 mph.. well at least according to Elon Musk. Musk said that the Roadster can go from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in as little as 1.9 seconds. And that is just the base model!

He could not give a specific number for the top speed but he said it would be above 250 mph. On a side note, the world record held by the Koenigsegg’s Agera RS is 277.9 mph.

The Tesla Roadster will have a 200 kWh battery pack and a 620-mile range per charge. The Roadster will have a total of 3 motors with two of them on the back and the other on the front. Furthermore, it will have AWD and torque steering.

The design of the car heavily borrows features from popular sports cars. The back looks akin to the Tesla DB10 while the cockpit resembles McLaren’s P1.

Now for the bad news!

Fans of this car will have to wait for a few years. Musk says production will begin only in 2020. Tesla has been notorious for setting deadlines and never meeting them so that fact has to be taken into consideration too.

The base price of the Tesla Roadster is $200,000 and an interested individual is for $50,000. Elon Musk as confirmed that there will be a more powerful model to the Roadster that can do better than the 1.9 s he has claimed. He also said that rocket technology will be incorporated into the vehicle.
