The Xiaomi Redmi 5 was rumoured for a long while. Now after weeks of speculation, they have been finally revealed. The new handsets were unveiled in China earlier today. In typical Xiaomi fashion, they’re set to deliver high-quality on a tight budget.
The devices are thin and made of fine aluminium. They come with the much sought after 18:9 aspect ratio screens but the two devices are very much different on the inside.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 specs
The smaller device comes with a 5.7 inch screen with of course the 18:9 aspect ratio that allows it to have a taller display. The resolution is 1440 x 720p. the processor used is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 while the RAM comes in two variations; 2 GB and 3 GB. The internal memory too is offered in two variations; 16 GB and 32 GB. The rear camera is a 12 MP rear camera with 1.25-micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. The front facing camera is a 5 MP front camera with soft-light selfie flash. And yes, the Redmi 5 has a fingerprint scanner.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus specs
The bigger brother has a 5.99 inch display with the same aspect ratio as the Redmi 5. You will find a Snapdragon 625 on the inside accompanied by either 3 GB or 4GB of RAM. The battery is upped to 4000 mAH while the camera setup is the same as the Redmi 5.
Pricing
Xiaomi has an excellent record when it comes to competitive prices and the same applies here. The Redmi 5 will with the following price tag.
- 2 GB RAM / 16 GB ROM will sell for $120
- 3 GB RAM / 32 GB ROM will sell for $135
The Redmi 5 Plus will be sold for the following amount.
- 3 GB RAM / 32 GB ROM for $150
- 4 GB RAM / 64 GB ROM for $180
