How to wirelessly charge your iPhone 7

The iPhone 8 is the first Apple device to support wireless charging. If you use an iPhone 7, chances are you might be disappointed at missing out on this handy feature. However, there is a way to make your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus wirelessly charge just like an iPhone 8. All you need are a couple of accessories.

Kitting out a receiver for your iPhone 7

The tech used in the iPhone 8 makes use of a chip that is missing in the previous generation iPhones. Another point is that the iPhone 7 is made of metal which is not suitable for current popular forms of wireless charging. You can fix this problem by putting a wireless charging receiver on the back. You can achieve this by making use of such a case. One of the most popular is the Mophie Charge Force case. This adds transmitters for both the Qi and PMA wireless charging standards.

Decide which standard you want

Two standards dominate the wireless charging sector. One is Qi and the other is PMA. If you are thinking of buying a more affordable wireless charging case for your iPhone 7 that supports just a single standard, the best choice is to go with Qi rather than PMA.  Apple makes use of a similar tweaked Qi standard on its iPhone 8.

Getting a pad

The next part is buying the transmitter, the wireless pad on which you will rest your iPhone 7 to charge. Apple’s AirPower pad will be released only in 2018. However, the company sells the Belkin’s Boost Up pad on its site. It can give out up to 7.5W in power.

Keep in mind that it will not charge your phone as quickly as Apple’s 12W charger, and wireless charging is also less efficient than normal wired charging.
