How to save mobile data by using Facebook Messenger Lite

All of us want to stay up to date with the latest news and the happenings on our group conversations and other social media platforms. All of these activities will consume bandwidth and affect your internet allowance. The problem is that most people do not have an unlimited mobile internet connection. This means conserving mobile data is a priority for some people.

What is Facebook Messenger Lite?

Facebook has taken note of your problems and released a partial solution to this. They have done this by releasing an app called Facebook Messenger Lite. This is a new, limited version of the app you are likely used to using. It further consumes considerably less data than the fully fledged app. Added to that, it does not exert much of a strain on a smartphone’s processor.

The company behind the app has started rolling out the app. It is currently available in Australia, India and over 100 developing countries beforehand. As we speak, Facebook is rolling it out to the US, UK, Canada and Ireland. The bad news is that the app is only available for Android Users. According to TechCrunch there are no plans to make an iOS version in the future.

You can download the app from the Play Store. Once that is done, you can open up the app and sign in with your normal account information. After the login is done you can see the list of chats with the most recent chats appearing at the top.

To reduce the data footprint, a few features have been cut off from the app. A major feature that is omitted is the video chat or voice call feature on the app. The chat heads feature that pops up over the top of other apps will not happen when using this version either.
